The dyes use to color the base fabric and the appliqué are part of an Indian appliqué tradition from the state of Gujarat which is centuries old. Plant, vegetable and spices are used to obtain these exquisite colors. The elephant and his mahout, who are the central characters of this appliqué are adorned with a gem in the elephants eye and beautiful hand embroidered work in silver over the elephants body. Also the frame of the bag is connected to the body with a woven cotton patch which provides even more detail. Now this is called making a statement - Fashionable, Exotic and Eco Savvy!
